Are the prices at this restaurant mid-range / moderate? I've been here several times but this is my first review. If you are in there for these reasons and for experience it's definitely an awesome place to be.

The Calabash Bistro in Vancouver, serves up Caribbean cuisine in a creative and unique, environment. Light and creamy, and even better with the mango butter. We always come here for brunch and this is definitely not a biased review because of that. It's Father's Day 2016, we have the two kids with us, and we went to a few places for food but the lineups were super crazy.

But my tummy is saying MMMYUMMMZZZZ. What's their secret?! Now my mouth is burning. Although there were 20 of us, they gave us all separate bills which was nice.

Such a neat place. THIS PLACE IS AAAAAMAZING!they chef here is so crazy talented. The food is like home cooked with good flavour Can't recommend enough.

They have a great selection of rums and really yummy cocktails... i had the mango mojito and it was special The manager, Mark, is so nice and very accommodating. Ask a question about working or interviewing at Calabash Bistro.

Calabash certainly fit the bill. I'd recommend their seafood dishes over the jerk chicken. Our community is ready to answer.

Goat curry:The goat meat was gamy but they still managed to make it very tender. For our first visit, we ordered Yelper favorites. With better door staff this place would be a 4/5 star establishment. I was initially taken back by the horchata's description: Guinness with almond milk, rum and agave syrup. Served with your choice of mango honey or guava butter, Fried and dusted with Calabash jerk spice. I would recommend to any and everybody! Which is exactly what you want when you're looking for someplace to go after work (and Calabash is conveniently located across the street from my office).

Every time we come here we wonder why we don't come here much more often! The Dark and Stormy is always a good hit or anything with mango purée. All was divine.We will be going regularly! Absolutely recommend. I apologize for this, but it smelt spunky.For the price, even for a downtown resto, I did not get good value, but I chalk this up to a learning experience. I didn't know that there was so much spice in Jamaican food. Ocean Wise jerk prawn skewer, salt fish, green papaya and bell peppers tossed in our house vinaigrette. I don't know anything about rum, but they didn't burn as it traveled down my throat, which I think is a good sign of quality booze!

Seasoned crab meat, salt cod and shrimp with a crispy spiced cornmeal crust. Jerk chicken poutine:Poutine with jerk spices, tons of cilantro and green onions. Your choice of curry or stew wrapped in a fresh busup roti. It was a substantial soup without being starchy and thick. To die for! Halfway down the block while going back to the car, an employee who just started his shift chased us to let us know that he knows how hard it is to get two kids out of the house and was willing to open up the downstairs seating to us with waiting for just about five minutes. I've been here several times but this is my first review. You have to talk to the bartender, really friendly guy who makes great cocktails. The service although initially a bit slow, was friendly and accommodating. Marinated in a house-blended curry and slow cooked.

But do watch out for the peppercorn and pieces of dried bay leaves - they threw in whole peppercorn kernels and it's really spicy if you eat it by accident, and I almost choked on the bay leaf because it got stuck in my throat! The food was pretty good but the atmosphere was a little uncomfortable due to the location. They are so good. I got the jerk chicken and a salad on the side, both were very flavourful and and authentic. So much rum. Though it wasn't perfect, but it was still memorable, and warrants a return!

I ordered beef patties and the oxtail stew....More, Definitely worth stopping into Calabash if you’re in the area and will probably go out of my way to go back there again too.

We went on friday and the place turns into a Jamaican and oldschool hiphop club. Served with cool dahi and a marinated green papaya salad. Drinks: Dark & Stormy and HorchataSpicy and refreshing. It was on my radar for a short while (met the owner while having brunch in Gastown). Say whaaaat? My roti with curry was ok. This is an ingenious combination. The only thing we enjoyed were the drinks (the Dark and Stormy was delicious) and the selection of rum -- getting the attention of a server to actually order a drink is another story, though.We had the following:- potatoes to start: doused with too much salt and rosemary and burnt to perfection.- candied yams: were quite enjoyable, however they were presented in a bowl and the bottom have were soggy and undesirable- jerk chicken: this was not seasoned or marinated properly. Working at Calabash is great for primarily the good vibes, great food, great people, excellent music, excellent cocktails and let us not forget the rum. Though it wasn't perfect, but it was still memorable, and warrants a return! 42 other reviews that are not currently recommended. I went there when I saw the good reviews and I ordered the oxtail stew and coconut dumplings ,some appetizers,the stew was full of bones I couldn't find any meat on it and too spicy  I spent too much time and money it doesn't worth it, Once inside the ambience, music, and drinks here are great. The thing that impressed me the most, however, was the side salad that came with it. The sauce/soup is full of flavour, and makes a great dip for the roti and fries. Check the style. Marinated and stewed with potato, and carrots. My daughter and I went for a ‘date night’. I think we have covered much of the menu by now but looking forward to starting from the top again! All in all, a good meal with excellent drinks in a part of town that could use a solid restaurant. I would order oxtail or jerk chicken, not the fish tacos. Mussels, snapper, prawns and fresh veggies steamed in mango or coconut rundown, a touch of white wine and a little spice. These drinks are so good and go down easy I would have had five if I wanted. Oh by the way, music was myumz to my ears too.. Everything here taste amazing!

We were hungry and wanted to eat asap so we left. The food...More, Lovely place albeit loud in a bit of a dodgy area. And the atmosphere was AMAZING!!!!! All were great - on the spicy side, but hey that's Caribbean fare for ya - and the coconut dumpling was the perfect balance to offset the spiciness. But if I were to pick my top dish, it would definitely have to be the Mussels. Organic mixed greens, roasted chick peas, eggplant,cucumbers, carrots and pineapple tossed in our house vinaigrette. First Caribbean experience! Calabash is still OPEN for take out and delivery. The music was also a bit loud for brunch and the food was a bit slow to come but I would still go back and give them another try. I always have a great meal here. So we ended up here as there was no lineup, but when we got in, all the tables were reserved and the wait time was about 30 mins.
