Mean Green Killing Machine is superb, Goddam Trouble is a goddam ace and Come Heavy is a masterpiece. Just listen an opening track or sound of dying. Those two songs have mind blowing breaks! Way better than ironbound in my opinion. As they always do, they kick open the front door with the rumble heavy opener “Thunderhead,” but immediately you notice Ellsworth’s vocals are a bit too nasally (which carries throughout the record). © 2020 - Metal Nation.

But again, I feel obligated to state, Overkill mediocrity is still better than most band’s better works. Years later, I would begin writing for a local music magazine in San Francisco, and eventually become its editor. It is arguably the band’s most experimental record to date, and not all of that experimentation paid dividends. Maybe its because this was the first overkill album I ever heard but I think this is their best. Bobby’s voice changed the landscape which was desperately needed at the time. I personally enjoy it more than Taking Over, but I think TO is probably a hair better. Sound off in the comments below on where you think we got it wrong, or right! Or what Death Magnetic was supposed to be. Indeed, Horrorscope was truly a mastepiece, and probably one of the best albums in metal music. After tossing out the somewhat pointless intro “XDM,” the thrash hurricane begins in earnest with “The Armorist” and then the storm of wrecking crew aggression takes control. 7) The Wings Of War Ok personally I think years of decay is their best, but this needs to be higher than 6, it's my number 2My partial list1.YOD2.TO3.Horrorscope4.FTF5.Ironbound. I’ve always bemoaned the bass being buried in metal, but this is so in your face it becomes distracting.

Coincidentally it led to an album full of his more adventurous vocal moments. The riffs are very hard hitting. The best of all…IMO. Jaysus, one of the best thrash staples and sits so low? Sadly, after that, everything went to shit. Interesting list. YEARS OF DECAY 2) The Years Of Decay The band opens the oughts with an album that finds them reconnecting with their thrashier roots. Your email address will not be published. Nice list! Ranking OVERKILL: The Studio Albums – Worst to First By Rustyn Rose on February 22, 2019 I t’s 2019, and the blue-collar bruisers in Overkill are about to drop album number 19. In 2008, I started writing for and eventually bought Metalholic Magazine, and a decade later I have merged it into Metal Nation. I would argue that this decade, beginning with Ironbound and through The Wings of War is the group’s most impressive and strongest era. Great riffs. The drums are kickass too! With longtime guitarists Derek Tailer and Dave Linsk in tow, and drummer Jason Bittner joining the fray, Overkill is set to decimate with The Wings of War which dropped today. The guitar tone is the best yet! I think with White Devil Armory the band reached its absolute peak. It’s 2019, and the blue-collar bruisers in Overkill are about to drop album number 19. Overkill‘s sophomore album revealed a more thrash infused sound than their debut effort, Feel the Fire. I’m a huge Overkill fan and I’ve forgotten 16 of those 19 albums, except for 1 or 2 songs here and there. Modernmproducfion and every track is a winner. A great album! This is killer, the production is superb and the guitar tones really cut deep, people always go on about their early stuff, this should be up in the top five in my opinion, This album was a great metal album! Own this on MC. FROM THE UNDERGROUND After the brilliant thrash comeback of 2010’s Ironbound, the band dropped two more albums which followed that template, with Electric Age and White Devil Armory.

Countries With the Most COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Cases, Best Fitness Center Chains and Gym Franchises. Share. This along with horrorscope talking over and years of decay are overkills finest albums. magazine listed the album at #46 among the "100 Greatest Heavy Metal Albums of All Time". IRONBOUND. 5) Ironbound

Some might argue a few of the band’s 90s efforts were worse records, but all of them had moments that stuck with you.
9) The Grinding Wheel 6) Under The Influence Great album all around! WFO -Blade: : if you’re a huge fan then how can forget 16 of their 19 albums? Rat Skates provided a sturdier performance ,though he remains perhaps the band’s weakest stick wielder to date. People literally interchange Horrorscope and Years Of Decay constantly. For the next few albums it really feels like splitting hairs in determining rank. 1) Taking Over What? Directions: Rank Overkill's studio albums.

OVERKILL … Bloodletting can’t really make the same argument, though it’s still a raucous listen even if it doesn’t stick. It was the band's first album with Bronze Records. Best Groove album bu them. came just one year after the broad departure of 93’s I Hear Black, and the speed with which the band got it out suggests they let some of the harsh critiques of said album push them a bit. -King Diamond: Horrorscope has and always will be a masterpiece.

The true weakness with this record is in the overall lack of memorability. -Alexa: uhhhh no, not everything went to shit. The production may not be the best but it still sounds amazing. If there was a point in Overkill’s career where they came close to phoning it in, this would be the album.

Modernmproducfion and every track is a winner.

It takes all the best parts of The Years Of Decay and refines them. Upeee! Now you're all screwed =) United We Rock! The best of all…IMO.

YoD, H, and I are the top three for sure. So that makes it a good album. 2) The Years Of Decay W.F.O. All of the songs are f#'cking epic! I’m a huge Overkill fan and I’ve forgotten 16 of those 19 albums, except for 1 or 2 songs here and there. Launched just a year after The Killing Kind, Overkill dove headfirst into the Pantera groove machine with nods to Nola sludge. Everything fits nicely together here, from Blitz’s venomous delivering, to Verni’s marrow-vibrating bass, to punchy riffs, and Lipnicki’s steady stick work. The last Overkill album prior to the band’s massive re-emergence with the beastly Ironbound in 2010. -Alexa: uhhhh no, not everything went to shit. People literally interchange Horrorscope and Years Of Decay constantly.

The order of my top 3 or 4 could change tomorrow: Great album, extremely underrated. YEARS OF DECAY All Rights Reserved. Had to go with Years of Decay, but yeah, this was like the Megadeth Endgame. Bobby gives a lot of effort and sometimes he sings very differently. Which for any of those cases I feel bad for you because I can remember all of them. This album reaffirmed that Thrash is alive and well! AENIMUS Release Lyric Video for “Eternal”, 40 Years On: The Top 10 Metal Albums of 1980, Ranking DEATH: The Studio Albums – Worst to First, Ranking TESTAMENT: The Studio Albums – From Worst to First, Ranking TOOL: The Studio Albums – A Dark Collection of Sonic Mastery. Every once in a while I tried to listen some of the new songs, but I felt they just were not that good anymore. One might even suggest the albums gives nods to Nu-Metal, albeit it with a more aggressive and corrosive delivery. Overkill Albums Ranked Metalogen. Horrorscope, taking over, killing kind, everything else. 8) The Electric Age It’s a fucking crusher of a record, as evidenced from the album opener, “It Lives.” That said, it diverts away significantly from the band’s thrash foundation and early punk-laden roots.

I love the guitar tone on Horrorscope, but I feel The Years of Decay has better songs overall. It marks the band’s first album completely self-produced which might explain the latter issue. I bought the debut KISS record on my 10th birthday in 1974. Genres: Thrash Metal, Groove Metal, Heavy Metal. You know, this was actually good. Tracks like “Save Yourself,” “Drop the Hammer,” and “21st Century Man” are modern classics for the band. 5) Ironbound

This is probably my favorite Overkill album. I’m a big thrash guy and Overkill’s been the band that stood out to me (they’re my favorite band for a reason). WFO Blitz gets absolutely sinister on the closer “Gasoline Dream,” an album highlight.

9. Interesting list. One can hear the influence of the groove metal trending peeking in throughout the record, though it definitely finds the band once again embracing its thrash esthetic. 7) The Wings Of War I’m a big thrash guy and Overkill’s been the band that stood out to me (they’re my favorite band for a reason).

Neither is as impactful as Ironbound, but when you’re this good, you simply cannot top yourself every record. FROM THE UNDERGROUND Drummer Ron Lipnicki made his debut here, and that provided a fresh punch over the complacent malaise of the departed Tim Mallare.

Frontman Bobby Blitz Ellsworth and bassist DD Verni have been the band’s mainstays for the duration, but each iteration of the band has churned out thrash heavy classics that still stand the test of time. Horrorscope refines the best elements of The Years Of Decay. I think this edges out Electric Age. It takes all the best parts of The Years Of Decay and refines them. A pretty weird choice but I'll go with it. It is the Overkill album that I go back and listen to the most. Again, sorry for your bad opinion (also shame on you disgracing the great name of King Diamond) HORRORSCOPE “Coma” is an amazing song, arguably their best of all-time (and “Blood Money” is criminally underrated; seriously, check it out if you haven’t already). No horroscope isn’t masterpiece, never was and never will be, feel the fire is masterpiece, always been, taking over is one masterpieces. Verni brings his ‘A’ game on this one, highlighted by tracks like “Bitter Pill.” Two of the album’s many highlights include “King of the Rat Bastards” and the playfully raucous anthem, “The Fight Song,” which is a bonus track. Overkill discography and songs: Music profile for Overkill, formed 1980. Rankings. Verni’s bass throughout the record. Very underrated. You may have some bad taste but Overkill was still putting out solid / great content and still does. Ugh I don’t trust this review 98% of metal heads I know state That the years of decay is their best album so I believe this dude is way off. 4) Horrorscope Lists with less than 9 albums will not be counted. With The Grinding Wheel, Overkill begins breaking the template they forged on 2010’s Ironbound. The band’s middle tier of albums is all pretty solid and fairly equal. One can enjoy listening to it, but few fans go back to it often. My personal favorite is still Feel The Fire but I agree that, objectively, Horrorscope is Overkill’s best album (it was also my first album from them).
